Upcoming Events

each fall and spring for 40-day time periods (the dates vary slightly each year)
An international, community-based prayer vigil that focuses on prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism to help bring an end to abortion. 40 Days for Life vigils take place each fall and spring for 40-day time periods (the dates vary slightly each year) in communities all over the world. In Champaign-Urbana, we pray and sidewalk counsel outside either Planned Parenthood or the Equity Clinic both of which are in Champaign.

first Sunday in October
Life Chain takes place each October, all across North America, usually on the first Sunday in October. Participants gather for 90 minutes of peaceful prayer while holding signs with pro-life messages. In central Illinois, we gather on public sidewalks along the south side of Hessel Park in Champaign as a public witness to pray for our nation and for an end to abortion.

mid to late December
Peace in the Womb Christmas Caroling takes place each year around mid to late December in communities all across the country. We gather on the public sidewalk outside the abortion facility to sing traditional carols focused on the true meaning of Christmas (song books with lyrics are provided), followed by hot chocolate, Christmas cookies, and fellowship at a local church.

Single-sided and double-sided, 4’ tall x 8’ wide signs, are installed on private land to help foster a stronger Culture of Life, and for women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy to know where to find help at free, faith-based pregnancy centers. These Pro-Life Billboards can be installed on farmland, outside a church or business, or attached to an already existing sign or onto a building. More landowners are needed to allow Pro-Life Billboards on their property. Volunteers do all the work.

Good Friday
The Way of the Cross is a nationwide prayer service, including Scripture readings and group prayers; it takes place on Good Friday each year to contemplate the suffering of Jesus Christ at our own modern-day Golgotha, the abortion facility. Prayers follow the Stations of the Cross, depicting 14 events in the Passion of Jesus Christ, with a special pro-life emphasis. Prayer booklets are provided.

We try to hold a Jericho March once per year; this gathering includes Faith, Pro-Life Witness, Some Exercise and Joyful Noise in a family-friendly gathering; it mimics the biblical Battle of Jericho as we peacefully circle the abortion facility 7 times. Pastors lead prayer and participants march (walk) around the facility while praying. This event includes singing and music, including the Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho song and noisemakers. Information will be shared on the 40 Days for Life Champaign-Urbana Facebook page.

January on a Friday closest to January 22
The March for Life takes place in Washington, D.C. each January on a Friday closest to January 22. It is the largest pro-life event in the world with hundreds of thousands of people gathered to testify to the beauty of life and the dignity of every human being. The Supreme Court ruling Roe v. Wade legalized abortion on January 22, 1973 and is considered the greatest human rights violation of our time.

late January
This prayer gathering takes place around January 22 each year to honor the tens of millions of lives lost to abortion. The location varies each year as different churches and different faiths host this event, which includes inspirational remarks, scriptural readings, intercessory prayer, and music. Speakers usually include local area pastors as well lay individuals, and prominent individuals involved in pro-life ministry. Light refreshments are also served.
